The most important rule at Austell is knowing exactly where to drive. The real truck gate is on a dedicated access road, but your GPS might try to take you a different way.
Logistics Alert: Never turn left (east) out of the terminal toward Austell Powder Springs Road. This leads straight into the historic Clarkdale neighborhood. The streets are too narrow for a 53-foot truck, and local police wait there specifically to hand out expensive tickets to lost drivers. Always turn right (west) toward Thornton Road.
Getting Into the Yard: Apps and Gear
To keep traffic moving, this yard uses an Automated Gate System (AGS) with cameras that scan your truck and trailer numbers while you drive up.
- The ExpressNS+ Mandate: You cannot get through the gate without the ExpressNS+ phone app. You must put your load information into the app before you arrive. The app gives you a QR code to scan at the gate kiosk, which tells you exactly where to park. If you type your login wrong three times, the app locks you out.
- Blume Global Appointments: If you need a crane to lift an international container onto your truck, you must have a pre-scheduled appointment through Blume Global. If you show up without an appointment time, the gate will reject you.
- The 6-Inch Boot Rule: You must wear a hard hat, a safety vest, and safety glasses outside your cab. Most importantly, your work boots must be leather, stand at least 6 inches high, and have a 90-degree heel so you do not slip on the rail tracks. No sneakers allowed!

- Weather Delays: These giant electric cranes are very sensitive to severe weather. If high winds or winter ice storms hit the area, the cranes will freeze operations completely for safety.
The yard uses the South Atlantic Chassis Pool (SACP 3.0) for trailer frames. This pool has thousands of brand-new chassis with great brakes and lights. Just make sure to return your chassis to its proper home, or your company will get hit with continuous daily penalty fees.
Driver Survival Guide: Scales and Parking
Because you cannot park or sleep overnight inside the train yard, you need a smart arrival strategy.
- Where to Rest: The closest spot to stage before your appointment is the Racetrac Travel Center on Thornton Road, just 3 miles away. For a full 10-hour sleep reset, head further west on I-20 to the Pilot Travel Center in Villa Rica (Exit 26) or the Love's Travel Stop in Waco (Exit 9).
- The I-20 Scale Houses: The Georgia Department of Public Safety is very aggressive around this yard. There is a major weigh station on I-20 Eastbound at Mile Marker 42 (Lithia Springs). You must make sure your container is perfectly balanced and legal before hitting the highway.
- Low Bridge Danger: Avoid taking Powder Springs Road north toward Marietta. It has low-clearance rail bridges that will completely rip the roof off a 13'6" container or dry van.
